What Is Wide Open Floor, You Ask?
Wide Open Floor is Chattanooga's Laboratory of Creative Expression. It is a safe and nurturing performance opportunity for artists of all walks to come and share their work. Whether it's polished or raw, memorized or improvised, a professionally performed routine, or just a "shitty first draft"*, it is acceptable material for The Floor.
Who can perform? Dancers, storytellers, actors, musicians, poets, speech writers, circus acts, balloon artists, candidates for the public office... You got it, we'll take it!
This is WIDE open, so anything goes. Your only requirements are that you keep it to under 8 minutes, and that you don't damage the physical property of the performance venue. (Well, and also that you show up in time. And that you don't hog all of the cookies for yourself. And that you are respectful of the performers, even if you don't like them or don't agree with them or they make you so angry you could spit).
Time slots fill up on a first-come basis. I do not screen this, folks. Surprise me with what you bring! To reserve your place in the line-up, swing by early, between 7 and 8pm, the day of the show. Bring some friends to watch you in all your brilliance. Tickets for non-performers are only $5, and can be purchased at the door.
Refreshments are for sale in the lobby, including a nice selection of long necks for those over 21 with proper ID.
(And sometimes there are free cookies. Really good, fancy, home-made cookies.)
I hope to see you there and shake your hand!
